Late night wirehogs
So Snydy called me up and said "I'm thinking of getting a flat screen T.V." He preshopped at his preferred best buy then called for me to meet him at the one by my house. We talked with a very help full sales guy we will call" Jerry". "Jerry" talked snydy into a lower model than he had researched. At the time I thought it was a good idea. I said to Snydy "well, If you go with the "jerry" model you can get a surround system". Let me make absolutely clear that encouraging this was a mistake. I'll explain later in the story. So Snydy looked around at speakers and was getting a nice vibe of the thought of it. He was still unsure if he was going make the big purchase. Then here comes "Jerry". "Jerry" takes us to a room and plays Dark Side of the Moon. The speakers sold themselves. So all is well at this point. A few inexpensive cables and stands then Snydy takes the plunge into the world of High Def. So Snydy and I load the boxes into the truck and off we go. Let me say that had he only bought the tv it would have been about a half hour of set up. That is, If he had only bought the T.V.
So we begin the task of unhooking and re hooking existing cables. Taking extra care to protect TIVO.We removed the old T.v. To this point not too bad. We run the speaker wires. To this pint not too bad but it's getting late. We carefully unpack the t.v. To this point not bad but it's getting later. We turn on the t.v. Not bad but we really didn't get to see much high def. Buffy from the dvd player was the best I saw. So not too bad it's about 1am now this when I expected we'd be done. The receiver had other plans though. Both the working one and electronic one. So the next 45 minutes was spent hitting the same buttons over and over trying to get surround sound. It was brain numbing and late. I left and Snydy kept at it till 3. He went today for one more inexpensive cable. I'm now thinking that "jerry" cost us some time. If "jerry" had recommended the model Snydy first looked at there would have been no surround sound. Thus shaving countless hours off of the installation. Thanks" jerry"-C

well the surround sound is pretty nice...very subtle..it's like i can actually hear stuff now.
although the setup is ongoing and now i need five different remotes to turn it on, use tiveo, adjust the volume and play a dvd. i was down to just 2 remotes...tivo and dvd. sheesh!
First off his name was Ted. I saw his name tag as we were leaving.
He was very helpful & I always fancied a surround sound system. It sounds so nice when operating properly. (MUCH better than now) I would like it if I had all my speakers working properly like in the demo room. I am wondering if it is the receiver itself? It was an open box buy when I bought it a few years back. I'm going to see if anybody at work knows this stuff. I was toying with the idea of selling this receiver & Advents to buy a new receiver. So if you know anyone, I also have a nice 27" flat panel.
As far as the remotes I am going to try to consoldate them. We'll see
